PSG Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck two times late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
